Passager Clandestin

J'ai rencontré Cyril et Hugues aux VavaU, le groupe d'îles le plus au nord des Tonga. C'était un vendredi soir, au Yacht Club. Une fête y était organisée après une régate amicale.

J'étais l'équipier d'un skipper américain. J'avais embarqué avec lui entre la Nouvelle Zelande et les Tonga. Dans la régate, nous étions en bonne position bien que notre bateau soit probablement le plus lent de la flotte. Ratafia arrivait de Polynésie pendant que la régate avait lieu, et il a rejoint les autres bateaux de la régate.

Nous avions donc tous une bonne raison de faire la fête et la nuit fut bonne !!

Le lendemain, nous avons commencé à naviguer dans la région ensemble. Nous étions une flotte de 2, 3 bateaux. Ils m'ont demandé de les rejoindre 2 semaines plus tard. Je ne m'y attendais pas du tout, car nous nous étions déjà dit au revoir le matin, et ils étaient supposés partir l'après midi même. Mais en début de nuit, nous les avons revus à terre. Ils avaient pris du retard dans leur préparation et avaient décidé de ne partir que le lendemain matin. Alors nous avons encore pris notre dîner ensemble.

C'est lors de ce dernier dîner que Cyril m'a glissé à l'oreille: "Voudrais-tu venir avec nous jusqu'aux Fiji?" Hugues était préoccupé par mon mal de mer à l'occasion de la traversée Nouvelle Zélande - Tonga, mais fort heureusement, il a accepté de me prendre à bord.

De mon côté, je voulais leur demander de voyager à leur bord. Je ne l'ai pas fait, mais heureusement, ils ont pris les devants et le plaisir de voyager avec eux était devenu 2 fois plus grand.

Alors le lendemain, nous avons mis les voiles. La traversée était très sympa et nous avons eu beaucoup de chance avec la pêche.

Cyril et Hugues ont un comportement très différent lorsqu'ils sont à terre ou en mer. A terre, ils sont assez blagueurs, et aiment prendre du bon temps. Alors qu'en mer, ils sont beaucoup plus sérieux, ils sont concentrés sur le bateau et la navigation, et ils ont fait tout leur possible pour que je me sente bien et confortable à bord.

Nous avons passé les 1ers jours aux Fiji à visiter les terres de Vanua Levu. Pendant la nuit, nous avons navigué vers Viti Levu où Ratafia a reçu sa nouvelle livrée bleue. Les travaux se sont bien passés malgré les conditions MTO qui n’étaient pas exemplaires ces temps ci.

C'est bien tout ce que je peux dire après seulement 15 jours passés avec ces 2 personnes. Nous avons prévu de nous retrouver à Bornéo en Décembre, pour monter sur le Mont Kinabalu, et bien sur, faire à nouveau des navigations sympas.

i met c and h in vava u... the most north group of tonga.... it was on a friday evening in a yacht club having the party after a friendly race...
i had crewed for an american skipper... whom is sailed with from new zealand to tonga.... we got a good position even tough his boat was probably the slowest.... c and h just arrived from polinesya and saw the regatta and joined the other boats....
all of us had good reasons to celebrate and the night was good...
from the next day we started to cruise together around together.... we were a flee of two / three boats...
i was asked to join them two weeks later... it was really not expected... we already said our goodbuys during the morning and they were supposed to leave during the afternoon but early in the evening they showed up again... they delaied getting ready and chose to leave the next day... thus we had one more dinner together... it was at that moment when c whipered in my ear if i wanted to sail with them to fiji..... h had small concern about my seasickness during the nz tonga passage but fortunately he agrred to take me on board.....
i was thinking to ask them for it... i didn t but fortunately they asked me so the pleasure to sail together was twice as nice....
the next day we took off.... the passage was really good and we were lucky with fishing...
on sea they are really different than on shore.... their minds are up to jokes and having fun on land... off shore they are more seriouskeeping their focus on sailing and they did their best to make me feel confortable....
we spent the first days in fiji visiting the inland of vanua levu then we moved overnight to viti levu to give ratafia her new blue look which worked good when the weather wasn t the best in those days.....
that s some i can say about two weeks with the guys.... we planned to meet again in borneo in dec... climbing the mount kinabalu and ofcoures having good sailing once again
